By: E&P Staff Sun Community Newspapers has announced the upcoming launch of the Encino (Calif.) Sun. The free community weekly will be delivered to the homes of 18,000 Encino residents starting June 24th, with additional copies available at area markets, the Encino/Tarzana library and other select venues.
"A community paper has an organic link with people," Mayor Villaraigosa said at the opening of the paper's Studio City offices earlier this year. "We want to know about the people making a difference in our lives. The Sun does this for us in a way that makes us all proud."
Publisher James Kaplan and Executive Editor Judith A. Proffer first published the Studio City Sun in December 2002. Sherman Oaks followed in January 2004. The publications both moved to a weekly schedule in February.
"Our papers tend to focus on and tighten up a community's sense of involvement," Kaplan said. "We look forward to playing a significant role in Encino's community and marketplace."
