By: E&P Staff Sun Newspapers, a subsidiary of Advance Publications based in Valley View, Ohio, is shuttering 11 of its weekly papers, the company said on Tuesday.
"The fact is we're in this recession that's turned out to be a lot more severe than any of us thought it would be and this has really hurt the local businesses which in turn has affected the ad revenue for our papers," Linda Kinsey, executive director of Sun Newspapers, told NewsNet5, which
reported the closings.
Today marks the last day of distribution for the papers and at least five of the communities in the Cleveland area-- Euclid, Garfield, Maple Heights, Bedford and Nordonia Hills - will no longer have coverage. The 11 remaining papers in the
chain will pick up coverage of other areas.
The Sun cut its editorial staff by one-third to 34 employees.
