By: E&P Staff Chicago Sun-Times columnist Mark Brown is one of three winners of this year's Studs Terkel Awards, the Chicago-based Community Media Workshop announced Tuesday.
The annual awards "honor outstanding journalists who bring the voices of ordinary people to the public's attention as they cover Chicago's diverse communities," the organization said.
In addition to Brown, the award was won by Renee Ferguson, an investigative reporter for WMAQ-TV/NBC 5; and Mary Johns and the editorial staff of the Residents' Journal, a newspaper produced by residents of public housing.
The awards will be presented April 19 at The Arts Club of Chicago, 201 E. Ontario, Chicago. The event is chaired by Studs Terkel and Chicago columnists Mary Schmich and Eric Zorn. More information about the event is available on the Community Media Workshop Web site,
