Sun-Times Media Group Names Publisher, Appoints Others New Duties

By: E&P Staff Chicago Sun-Times Publisher John Barron will take on the additional title of group publisher and senior vice president-news/editorial for the newspaper's parent Sun-Times Media Group, the company announced this weekend.

Barron will also continue his duties as publisher of Pioneer Press, the Sun-Times Media Group's cluster of weeklies, the company said.

Fred Lebolt, president and publisher of the Sun-Times Media Suburban News Division, was also named senior vice president-news operations for Sun-Times Media Group.

Lebolt will have direct responsibility for integrating online and print news content from the company's network of newspapers and Web sites, Sun-Times Media Group said. Lebolt will report to Barron.

Lebolt's former duties will now be split and handled by Jerry Alger and Robert Wall.

Alger, in addition to his role as Sun-Times Media vice president of advertising, south region, has been named publisher of the SouthtownStar.

Wall, in addition to his role of Sun-Times Media vice president of advertising, west region, has been named publisher of Sun-Times Media-West Region.

In a statement, Sun-Times Media Group said the changes "are designed to strategically position and maximize the strengths of the Sun-Times Media newspaper and digital network."
