By: E&P Staff The Sunshine Campaign, intended to spur discussion of open government issues in the election year, rolled out new Web and print ads that can be used free of charge by participants.
The ads, in English and Spanish, are available on the Sunshine Week Web site, http://www.sunshineweek.org.
Sunshine Week, which will be celebrated March 16-22, is an annual campaign led by the American Society of Newspaper Editors (ASNE) to focus attention on the importance to citizens of freedom of information laws and other open government measures.
The ads for Sunshine Week's Sunshine Campaign feature bipartisan "spokesmammals," Ronnie, a Republican, and Donnie, a Democrat. They all include the tagline, "Government Access Is For Everyone."
"We're offering these ads in a variety of formats and languages to give different media opportunity to use them," said ASNE President Gilbert Bailon, the editorial page editor of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "We want to remind people about the importance of their right to know what government is doing, regardless from where they get their information."
Two print ads are available in English and Spanish, in black and white and color, and in versions that include space for a participating newspaper's name and logo, and others that omit the space.
The four Web ads are also available in both languages. They include a banner, skyscraper, and two buttons. The ads conform to Internet Advertising Bureau standards.
