By: E&P Staff Let the misreporting begin: Among the first stories about President Barack Obama's nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court was a post on New York magazine's Web site that referred to the Bronx-born jurist as being "born to Puerto Rican immigrant parents."
But as pointed out by Regina Medina, a Philadelphia Daily News reporter and member of the board of directors of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens who are not "immigrants" if they relocate to the mainland.
Medina made the point in a Twitter item, first reported by Richard Prince in his "Journal-isms" blog on the Web site of the Maynard Institute for Journalism Education.
If confirmed, Sotomayor would be the first Hispanic on the U.S. Supreme Court.
