Survey Finds Print Recruitment Advertising To Be Inadequate

Posted
By: E&P Staff A new survey released by Classified Intelligence finds print advertising to be the least effective method used by recruiters.

Fifty-eight percent of respondents said as much, putting print on the lowest rung of all methods researched in the study. Only 13% indicated that they would up their spending in print -- the lowest on the survey again.

There is some good news in the study at least for sites like CareerBuilder. Some 50% said job sites -- especially niche and national boards -- are the most effective way to hire. Some respondents in the study said they make half of their annual hires from online job sites.

The study, conducted by ERE Media on behalf of Classified Intelligence, asked recruiters to rank the value of job sites, print, social networks, employee referrals, and career fairs. Three hundred and fifty-three recruiters from a range of several industries including banking and finance, IT, healthcare, retail, and engineering, participated. The majority of those polled oversee a budget of at least $50,000 dedicated to recruitment advertising.

As for job sites, 45% of respondents said they planned on increasing their spending. Of the respondents who spend more than $100,000 a year on advertising, 39% use job boards.

"The big news is that recruitment sites are identified as an effective way to find and hire employees," said Peter Zollman, principal of Classified Intelligence, in a statement. "Especially among large companies, recruiters are increasing their spending. This should mean real growth for the online job segment -- most likely at the expense of newspapers."
