By: The two men charged with murder in the case of retired New York Times journalist David Rosenbaum will have separate trials.
Prosecutors wanted separate trials for Michael Hamlin and Percey Jordan because the U-S attorney's office plans to introduce statements from each man that will implicate the other.
According to charging documents, Hamlin told police that he took Rosenbaum's wallet and later used his credit card, but says it was Jordan who hit the journalist on the head with a pipe.
The documents also say that Jordan told police that both men used the stolen credit card, but Jordan says he wasn't present for the attack in Northwest Washington.
The first trial is set for Oct. 18.
