Swiss Daily's Mobile Edition Relies on EidosMedia Web CMS

By: E&P Staff French-language Swiss daily Le Temps has launched an online edition tailored to readers using mobile devices. The new edition is produced using EidosMedia's M?thode Portal Server, the Web content-management system it adopted earlier this year as an extension to the M?thode editorial platform it has used since 2005.

The mobile edition automatically adapts to each mobile device's display characteristics, optimizing layout to the screen type and dimensions. As well as a constantly updated homepage linked to main news stories, the mobile edition features an expanding menu giving access to selected sections of the paper, editorials, financial data, television and entertainment listings and personalized weather forecasts. The home page also allows readers to search the current edition and has a send-to-a-friend option.

Mobile edition content is automatically selected and updated from a common editorial content store in accordance with the channel configuration.

The portal m.letemps.ch is "the first full service that we are providing to our mobile users," Le Temps Web Technicl manager Marc Ramer said in a statement, noting that more added-value content and applications will become available this year.

"Having a single editorial platform feeding print, Web and now the mobile channel allows us to offer a rich, interactive news service to our readers while making the most efficient use of our human and technological resources," Ramer said.

Since adopting the M?thode Portal Server last February, Le Temps' online offering includes reader comments and polls, e-paper editions and multimedia galleries driven by external image and video feeds.
