Tallahassee Democrat Names New Publisher

Julie Moreno, a newspaper executive and publisher of The Gaston Gazette in Gastonia, N.C., has been named president and publisher of the Tallahassee Democrat, parent company Gannett Co. Inc. announced Wednesday.

The North Carolina regional vice president for Freedom Communications, which owns the Gazette, Moreno, 48, is the ninth publisher of the Democrat and the first woman to be publisher since the newspaper was founded in 1905. She officially starts Nov. 26.
