'Tallahassee Democrat' Sportswriter Dies at 54

By: Steve Ellis, who covered the Florida State Seminoles for two decades for the Tallahassee Democrat, has died. He was 54.

Ellis died Thursday in a Tallahassee hospital, nine days after he suffered a massive heart attack at his home.

A Clemson University graduate, Ellis began covering the Florida State program for a weekly fan newspaper in the early 1980s and was hired to a similar position by the Democrat in 1990.

Ellis is survived by his wife Karen and parents, Jim and Geraldine Ellis, and a sister, Susie Shinner.

Arrangements were being finalized Friday with Culley's Meadowwood Funeral Home in Tallahassee.
