Teamsters Union Local No. 628 To Protest Philadelphia Media Network

Posted
By: Press Release | Teamsters Union

On Tuesday, February 14, 2012, Teamsters Local 628 will hold a rally in front of the Inquirer and Daily News headquarters at 400 North Broad Street in Philadelphia beginning at 11:30 am. We are taking this action because hedge fund investors Angelo, Gordon and Alden Global, the papers’ owners, have demonstrated a willingness to sacrifice the journalistic integrity of the papers in their pursuit of profits. The two hedge funds have put the papers up for sale and last week their newspaper management group, Philadelphia Media Network, suppressed a news story in order to help a purchasing group headed by former Governor Ed Rendell gain control of the paper. We believe that the public’s trust is vital to the future of the papers and to our jobs and that we should not stay silent when that trust is violated. For more information, contact John Laigaie, President, at 215-923-9540.

Teamsters Local 628 represents hundreds of workers employed as delivery drivers, dispatchers, clerks, roadmen, building services and security officers.
