By: Nekero Gomes Temple University's School of Communications and Theater is sponsoring a live teleconference on the changing nature of news and the rise of "fake news" satire like Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart."
The event, titled "What's News? A National Dialogue," is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 3, and will be held at the WHYY Television studios in Philadelphia.
During the teleconference, four panelists will take questions from a live studio audience, and interested participants can also register to send questions via e-mail at
www.whatsnewsteleconference.com.
Jarice Hanson, the Verizon Chairperson in Telecommunications at Temple's School of Communication and Theater, will moderate the event.
The panelists include: Lucy Dalglish, Executive Director of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press; Christopher Harper, an associate professor of Journalism at Temple University; Bill Israel, an assistant professor of Journalism at the University of Massachusetts and Victor M. Webb, an associate director at the Los Angeles-based TV affiliates KCBS-TV and KCAL-TV.
The teleconference will also include pre-recorded commentary by comedian Lewis Black of "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart."
