Terri Blackwell, editor and publisher of the White County (Ga.) News-Telegraph, died of heart failure over the weekend. She was 45.

Last month, she was among the three White County-News Telegraph workers to win first place in a Georgia Press Association contest in the ?Hard News? category.

?She was tough when she had to be, but still compassionate to all creatures on God's earth,? Johnny Solesbee, the Northeast Georgia regional publisher for Community Newspapers Inc., told the Associated Press.

Previously, Blackwell served in various editing posts at the Cordele Dispatch and Americus Times-Recorder, also in Georgia.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday morning.
