By: E&P Staff Texas Christian University announced today that its journalism department, founded in 1927, will be named the Schieffer School of Journalism in recognition of Bob Schieffer of CBS News, a 1959 TCU journalism graduate.

The new name will become official at a March 8, 2005, dedication ceremony.

Schieffer is moderator of CBS News' Sunday morning program, "Face the Nation," and is the network's chief Washington correspondent. He began his journalism career as a student reporter for TCU's The Daily Skiff.

"To have my name associated with TCU in this way is an honor far beyond anything I could have imagined," Schieffer said in a statement. "The technology of journalism has changed dramatically but its purpose and core values remain the same, to find the truth and report it. In an increasingly complicated world, the need for good journalism has never been greater. I look forward to playing an active role in helping TCU attract and develop the kind of young reporters who will be needed to meet the challenges of the coming years."

Established in 1873, TCU is a private university located in Fort Worth, Texas, with more than 8,600 students.
