By: Staff Reports No Echo On These Walls
Publication of The Echo, a 70-year-old newspaper produced by and for
Texas inmates at Huntsville's Walls prison, has been cancelled for an indefinite
period for security reasons, said spokesman Glen Castlebury.
Following the infamous December escape by seven prisoners from a maximum-
security facility near San Antonio, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice
found the remote location of the paper's office to be a security risk.
The free, 12-page monthly paper's circulation was about 130,000, including
inmates' families who relied on it for prison news.
