The New York Times Co., owner of the Telegram & Gazette, has agreed to sell the newspaper’s office building to a subsidiary of the Worcester Business Development Corp., which intends to renovate the aging complex at 18-20 Franklin St. as part of an ambitious downtown redevelopment plan.

The proposed purchase price is $300,000, according to an application for federal brownfields economic initiative funds to clean up the T&G property. The application was submitted last month by city officials to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The grant request is for $2 million.
