'The Big Funny' Set to Recapture Glory Days of Newspaper Comics

Posted
By: E&P Staff A new project aims to restore the former glory of newspaper comics in the form of a 48-page broadsheet called The Big Funny.

"Today's newspaper comics are much-maligned ... and deservedly so," according to the press release from The Big Funny, formed by Minneapolis-based art advocacy organization Altered Esthetics, The International Cartoonist Conspiracy and cartooning studio Big Time Attic.

"Today's small strips, with mostly predictable, safe themes and bland characters are a pale shadow of what newspaper comics were in their wild and colorful youth."

The Big Funny plans to be an antidote to that. The paper features original comics from more than 50 local, national and international cartoonists. Go here for ordering and more information.
