Three years on from the original installation and Harland Simon has been contracted to configure its versatile auto impositioning system (Prima Esprit) to handle the 3v (3 sheet per cylinder revolution) press configuration soon to be implemented at The Columbus Dispatch.
The Harland Simon system was one of the early innovations implemented during The Dispatches’ successful bid to become a regional centre for quality printed products. Charlie Brackley, Sales Manager for Harland Simon, commented, “The Dispatch originally installed the system to improve efficiency and consistency by eliminating the need for pressroom personnel to manually create press impositions and enter them into multiple systems. It clearly worked and we are looking forward to complementing this latest groundbreaking project with Esprit-3v".
The upgraded system will maximize the utilization and flexibility of the innovative new press configuration, while radically reducing the learning curve for the capabilities of the new system. Impositions can be automatically generated in the original 2 page per revolution configuration, or the new 3 page per revolution set up. It works using an algorithm that calculates the best way to produce a particular product, which is defined by the press capabilities and the pressmen's preferred printing methods. It then automatically passes the final plan to the CtP workflow and press control systems, which further eliminates manual processes and keystrokes, while reducing human error.
