By: Greg MItchell A funny segment of the Comedy Central "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" ended Wednesday night with a fake Drudge headline screaming something like, "NYT Inexpicably Lets 'Daily Show' Visit." So true.
Jason Jones got a tour, with all kinds of jokes about the paper sinking (and its lifeboats made out of paper, no less), Craigslist, Woodward and Bernstein's old days there (?), and more.
One of the paper's managing editors, Richard Berke, was challenged to find one thing new in that day's paper -- one thing that actually happened that very day. Of course, he couldn't. He did protest that this did not mean it was worthless. Jones was skeptical.
An interview with exec ed Bill Keller ended with him asked, "What's black and white and read all over?" Keller answered "a newspaper," of course, but Jason Jones corrected him, "No, your balance sheet."
Keller did point out that Huffington Post and Drudge did not exactly have bureaus in Baghdad.
Jones also pretended he could not believe that reporters were still using land lines.
