By: Joe Strupp Donald W. Nauss, deputy managing editor of The Detroit News and a 32-year newspaper veteran, has been promoted to managing editor, the paper reported.
Nauss, 59, has managed ?key editorial departments for eight years at The News and most recently led its business, local, political and projects coverage,? the paper reported. ?He previously worked as a reporter and editor for the Los Angeles Times, Dallas Times Herald, Philadelphia Bulletin and several other newspapers.?
"Driving the news report is Don's passion," said Jonathan Wolman, News editor and publisher. "Don wakes up and wonders what can we tell people that they don't already know, and then he goes after it."
Nauss, a longtime resident of Metro Detroit, succeeds Sue Burzynski, who left the newspaper to teach at Michigan State University.
Nauss said he ?wanted to extend the paper's proud tradition of award-winning coverage by producing more hard-hitting enterprise and major investigative projects on important issues.?
Since joining The News in 1999, Nauss has served as auto editor, business editor, assistant managing editor and deputy managing editor. Most recently, he has overseen the newspaper's daily news operations, including the Metro, Lansing, Washington and Business departments, the paper reported.
