Despite its critics, autoplay video is fast becoming ubiquitous across social networks. Twitter recently announced that all native videos, GIFs and Vines uploaded to the platform would soon autoplay in timelines by default, following the lead of Facebook, which introduced autoplay on desktop and mobile in December 2013.
