Posted
By: E&P Staff The Fresno (Calif.) Bee is cutting jobs in its advertising production department and will outsource work to India, the paper reported.

Out of the 31 positions in the ad department, seven will be slashed. Indian employees at Express KCS, a San Jose, Calif.-based company, will take over some ad production work beginning in September.

Those seven not placed in other jobs at the paper will be offered severance pay and extended health benefits.

President and Publisher of the Bee Ray Steele said in a statement the move will "serve our advertising customers more effectively, efficiently, and economically while focusing on our core business: producing relevant and compelling news and advertising information in our newspapers and on our Web sites."

The paper's ad department will continue to produce creative work for print and the Web.

Express KCS also has offices in London and New Delhi. The company does ad production work for other companies like MediaNews Group including the San Jose Mercury News and the Contra Costa Times.
