The Guardian's App Annie ranking shows how little App Stores Contribute to Paid Content Revenue

Posted

The Guardian app is the fourth-most successful non-game app in the UK when it comes to generating revenue according to figures from mobile app analysts App Annie, putting it ahead of apps from publishers such as News UK and Telegraph Media Group which have a much greater commitment to paid content.

There are two conclusions that can be drawn from this ranking (without seeing the total revenue figures). Either the Guardian is making a shed load of money from its paid iPad app and premium content such as crosswords, or that app stores are a pretty insignficant channel for news publishers who sell digital access.
