By: E&P Staff The Morning Call in Allentown, Pa., introduced a Web site redesign Wednesday at
www.Mcall.com. The redesign includes a number of functional and graphic changes that enable easier access to news and provide additional options for user feedback and personalization.
?This redesign was born of a real desire to improve the navigation of the site while creating a dialogue between The Morning Call and our audience by delivering new interactive features,? Russell Glitman, Interactive Content & Operations Manager for mcall.com, said in a statement. ?We remain committed to delivering up-to-the-minute breaking news seven days a week, but as Web use evolves it is important that we continue to innovate and increase the utility of the site, offering even more value to our audience.?
The overall page size has been enlarged to accommodate a larger browser viewing area, something that research has shown is a growing trend with visitors to the site. The expanded format provides for additional content on each page, including larger areas for user-submitted items such as comments, photos, and blogs.
The three main sections of the site -- News, Entertainment and Sports -- are now available using tabs listed across the top center of the home page. Sub-section navigation appears beneath each tab. A full navigation menu providing access to all sections of the site spans the top of each page.
New interactive features on the site let users customize the content on the homepage by selecting the default section that will display upon return visits to the site. The site also contains an expanded multimedia section, which provides access to video clips, audio clips, and photos.
The individual story pages now feature a scrolling list of recent news related to the current section. A toolbar at the top of the article also allows users to send an e-mail link to the story; submit comments on the story; select RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds to receive summarized updates and links to recent news; print the story, and change the font size of the article to one of three sizes.
New sections include the ?Life? section, which combines the content available from the Features, Entertainment, and Go Guide sections of the newspaper, and the ?Poconos? and ?New Jersey? sections, which contain news of particular interest to residents of those geographic regions.
The Morning Call is a member of the Tribune Publishing Company. Mcall.com receives approximately 390,000 unique users and 9 million page views a month.
