At the end of 2013, six months before her executive editorship of The New York Times came to a screeching halt, Jill Abramson began a reboot of the paper's venerable Sunday magazine. The goal, as Abramson put it in a staff memo, was to figure out how the title "relates to the rest of our news report and how it can be the most distinctive, edifying, pleasurable part of our news offerings."
