I am excited to announce that Gabriel Gianordoli has been promoted to deputy editor, Digital News Design.
Gabriel joined The Times in 2018, and has since built both an impressive, award-winning portfolio of contributions, and a stellar record of leadership and direction within the department. In the last few years Gabriel helped oversee an expanding digital design presence in collaboration with the Culture, Well, Styles, Travel and Real Estate desks.
Gabriel helped launch a collection of engaging and successful visually driven stories and projects — from “The African-American Art Shaping the 21st Century” to “The 100 Best TV Shows of the 21st Century” and our recent 175th anniversary projects. These and numerous other pieces have elevated our culture and lifestyle report and engaged our audiences.
Gabriel has also designed or directed the development of repeatable and scalable formats, including Close Reads, Travel guides, Routine and the At Home With series. He also made significant contributions, alongside several of his Design and Graphics department colleagues, to The Times’s Pulitzer Prize-winning efforts to track and cover the spread of the coronavirus.
Gabriel has played a crucial role in shaping how the Digital News Design department applies our editorial judgment and resources across the report, and in how we develop playbooks and strategies to meet the newsroom’s goals. He’s a strong advocate for our readers, ensuring their experiences match the high standards set by The Times. He’s also an accomplished visual editor who collaborates with journalists around the newsroom in elevating the material and ensuring the desk’s objectives are met.
Gabriel is a natural leader, teacher and mentor. He has helped develop and guide the technical, editorial and creative talent among the entire staff. He creates an environment and culture of curiosity, experimentation, collaboration and respect among his teammates. He has been dedicated to bringing innovation, quality, delight and journalistic integrity to our digital report. We’re thrilled to recognize Gabriel’s tireless work ethic and his collegial spirit as he joins the leadership team and works with his fellow deputy Matt Ruby and myself.
Congratulations!
