The New York Times appoints a new night editor for National

We’re thrilled to announce that Esha Ray, of the Flex desk, will become National’s new night editor.

Esha spent a little time with us already, stepping in as night editor in July and instantly became a key part of the team.

Esha joined The Times in August 2021 as a floating editor on the Flex desk. In that role, she edited a wide range of stories for style and grammar, and spent many nights on the coronavirus briefing. In June, she led an ambitious project on the Real Estate desk, producing an interactive guide for New Yorkers looking for affordable housing.

Before The Times, Esha spent four years at the New York Daily News, first as a reporter and then as an editor coordinating Metro coverage. She started her career as an on-camera correspondent for News 12 The Bronx, News 12 Brooklyn and CBS New York, reporting live from breaking news scenes and spending several winters trudging through the snow to cover extreme weather.

Please join us in welcoming Esha to National.
