By: E&P Staff The eighth annual conference of the Online News Association (ONA) will be held Oct. 17-19 in Toronto.

The conference will bring together digital journalists, bloggers, and educators in order to discuss the practical applications and possibilities of online journalism. It is aimed at new and veteran Web journalists, bloggers, and executives charged with growing the bottom line.

The ONA conference will consist of three "tracks": Community and Convergence; Content and Design; and Business.

The first track, Community and Convergence, will concentrate on the tools needed to build a strong online community. Speakers will include community news experts Rob Curley and JD Lasica, as well as online broadcasting journalists from ESPN.com, CBS News, and CNN.com.

The Content and Design Track will focus on how to excel at creating and packing Web content. Emphasis will be placed upon finding new ways to engage online audiences and use interactive tools.

Lastly, the Business Track will help attendees learn about emerging technologies and publishing trends. Speakers will address the latest innovations for online news sites, as well as topics such as advertising, monetization, staffing, and legal challenges will all be addressed.

Additionally, workshops will be offered on Oct. 17, and will feature such skills as Flash, video shooting, and citizen media.

Representatives from the Knight Foundation will be on hand to speak about the Knight News Challenge, and last year's winners will also be present.

The conference capstone will take place on the evening of Oct. 19, when the Online Journalism Awards are announced.
