The Past and Future in One Cartoon-Canine Product

By: Dave Astor A plush toy of Farley, the beloved "For Better or For Worse" dog, is being planned. The stuffed animal may go on sale by the end of December.

It's an interesting decision for Universal Press Syndicate cartoonist Lynn Johnston. In a way, the plush toy will depict a dead character -- because Farley passed away in 1995 after heroically saving the life of "FBorFW" character April Patterson.

But in another way, Farley hasn't died yet -- because Johnston last month returned "FBorFW" to its 1979 beginnings in a format of chronological semi-reruns. So Farley may not die again for 16 years, if the comic eventually makes it back to 1995 in real time.

Waymo’s model makes the case for AI, with measurable consumer benefits

What can a self-driving car teach news publishers about AI? Quite a lot, according to Guy Tasaka. How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
