'The Philadelphia Inquirer' Tries New Vehicles For Expanding Its Audience

By: E&P Staff The Philadelphia newspapers announced at the Newspaper Association of America?s Marketing Conference in Orlando that they are trying several new tactics to stay afloat, including targeting women over the age of 35.

Owner and public relations veteran Brian Tierney says that they are also focusing more efforts on their Web site, Philly.com. They are unrolling more video, such as a wine show called "Philly Uncorked." They are also hopeful about e-commerce via Zeppy, an Amazon-like site that hopes to provide more of a local look-and-feel.

The paper partnered with Monster.com for recruitment and building out community services. This was a good move, since the site has doubled its page views and boosted unique visitors by seven percent.
