'The Roanoke Times' Taps Veteran Newsman for Innovative Position

By: E&P Staff Dwayne Yancey has been appointed the senior editor of new channels for The Roanoke (Va.) Times.

Yancey, formerly the Times' assistant managing editor, will now work toward developing new strategies for the paper to reach readers through non-traditional formats and content. Some of the strategies to be implemented at the Times will include a more keen focus on local coverage, searching databases for enterprise reporting, and drawing in readers with interactive Web tools and platforms.

Yancey's new post is one of several new newsroom positions that the Times has created in order to stay competitive in the changing media environment.

Yancey began his career at The Roanoke Times in 1982 as a features reporter. He was appointed a metro editor in 1997, and has served as assistant managing editor since 2000.

Most recently, Yancey introduced a series of webcasts on roanoke.com, which are now updated daily and which focus on news, entertainment, and sports.
