'The Tennessean' Appoints New Publisher

By: E&P Staff Carol Hudler has been named president and publisher of The Tennessean in Nashville. She succeeds Ellen Leifeld, who is retiring.

Hudler most recently served as president and publisher of The News-Press in Fort Myers, Fla. She will remain the group president of Gannett U.S. Community Publishing South Newspaper Group. Mark Mikolajczyk is succeeding Leifeld as South Group vice president. He is currently the president and publisher of Florida Today.

"[Hudler] is a strong leader and brings a resourceful advertising and marketing perspective," Bob Dickey, Gannett U.S. Community Publishing president, said in a statement. "At the same time, we wish Ellen all the best. ... Ellen has been a good friend and colleague for many years and I will miss her."

Hudler has worked at the Kansas City Star, the Orange County Register and St. Paul Pioneer Press among other papers in a variety of advertising, marketing and management positions.

Leifeld has been with Gannett for more than 30 years working as a reporter, editor, managing editor, executive editor and publisher for the company.
