The Times, From the Top: Looking Ahead

THESE days, when Jill Abramson surveys the paper’s masthead, she does so with a certain amount of satisfaction. Half of the 10 top-ranking editors in the newsroom, including herself, are women. That’s a long way from a time when women had no presence on the Times masthead; the first was Carolyn Lee in 1990.
