By: Meg Campbell The Times-Herald, Port Huron, Mich., has acquired a Quipp inserter from sister paper Observer & Eccentric, Livonia Mich. The Times-Herald next month will install the inserter in its distribution facility, which it will expand with new Quipp machinery.
The Gannett daily has purchased two belt conveyors, two Model 500 stackers, two inkjet printers, and a bundle-distribution system that includes three new powered truckloaders. The paper also has bought Quipp's Newscom 6 inserter control system to manage inserting.
The new equipment replaces a 10:1 inserter and consolidates and upgrades Port Huron's printing and distribution operation, explains Production Director Bob Perini.
Quipp also announced new equipment orders from: Community Newspapers, Framingham, Mass. (two stackers, Viper wrapper); The News & Daily Advance, Lynchburg, Va. (two stackers, two Vipers); The Daily News-Sun, Sun City, Ariz. (Viper, Mattetop conveyors); The Reno (Nevada) Gazette-Journal, Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram, and Lancaster (Pa.) Newspapers (stackers); The Bulletin, Bend, Ore. (Viper); The Pantagraph, Bloomingtion, Ill., and Corpus Christi (Texas) Call-Times (conveyor equipment).
