By: E&P Staff Finalists for The Week magazine's second annual Opinion Awards, which will be presented March 8 in Washington, D.C., were announced today.
Columnist of the Year finalists include Steve Chapman of the Chicago Tribune (and Creators Syndicate), Richard Cohen of The Washington Post (and Washington Post Writers Group), Kathleen Parker of the Orlando Sentinel (Tribune Media Services), Mark Steyn of the Chicago Sun-Times, and Peter Beinart of The New Republic magazine (parts of which are syndicated by United Media).
Editorial Cartoonist of the Year nominees are Chip Bok of the Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal (and Creators), Steve Kelley of The Times-Picayune of New Orleans (Creators), Mike Luckovich of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (Creators), Gary Markstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (Copley News Service), and Tom Toles of The Washington Post (Universal Press Syndicate).
Single Issue Advocate of the Year finalists include Michelle Malkin on immigration, Christopher Hitchens on Islamofascism, Fred Kaplan on Iraq, Claudia Rosett on the United Nations oil-for-food scandal, and Jonathan Turley on civil liberties and the war on terrorism.
And Blogger of the Year nominees are PowerLine, Matthew Yglesias, PressThink, Hugh Hewitt, and Low Culture.
The Week ceremonies this year, on March 8, will include several panels with top name writers and pundits.
