Thomas W. Marquis, Circulation and Advertising Manager, Dies at 53

Thomas W. Marquis, 53, of Taunton, Mass., died Sunday, April 17 at Tuft's New England Medical Center in Boston.

A native of Connellsville, Pa., Marquis worked in both advertising and circulation for nearly 30 years at six different newspaper companies from New Jersey to California.

Ten of those years were spent with The Hartford Courant and the Stamford Advocate/Greenwich Times in Stamford, Ct. During that time, Marquis served on the board of directors for the New England Newspaper Circulation Association and the Connecticut Special Olympics.

Throughout his career, he worked for The Dover (N.J.) Advance, where he began his career as circulation manager; The Courier-News, Bridgewater, N.J.; Southern Ct. Newspapers in Stamford; The Hartford Courant; The Orange County Register in Santa Ana, Calif.; St. Louis Suburban Journals; and Community Newspaper Company in Boston, where he was publisher of several weeklies.

When he was working on the West coast, he served as president of the California Newspaper Advertising Executive Association. In his free time, he was an avid golfer who loved professional sports and enjoyed cooking.
