Correction: Thomson bought Wave Technologies International Inc. March 10, not
Waveshift Inc., as an earlier version of this story reported.
Thomson Corp. continues to buy into online information providers, the most recent
being yesterday's $275 million purchase of U.K.-based Dialog Corp., a provider of
business and law information.
Since Thomson announced its intent last month to sell Thomson Newspapers, excluding
flagship The Globe and Mail, the Canadian publisher has aggressively pursued
purchasing global e-information providers.
Before Dialog Corp., which has been struggling with debt since it bought Knight Ridder
Information in 1997, Thomson Corp. announced March 10 its purchase of Wave
Technologies International Inc., a provider of instructional products for information
technologies.
Dialog gives Thomson an international reach since Dialog's information services division
(ISD) is predominantly abroad.
