(Mediaweek) Kenneth Thomson,
chairman of Canadian publishing and financial information giant Thomson
Corp., said he will relinquish that title sometime in the next two years
and turn the reins over to his son, David Thomson, who sits on the
Thomson board.

The company announced in February it was selling most of its 130 U.S.
and Canadian newspapers to focus on electronic-based businesses, which
the company projects will account for 80% of revenues within five years.
It will keep its flagship Globe and Mail of Toronto.

Forbes magazine ranked the elder Thomson, 76, who took over the
company in 1976 following his father's death, the world's 15th-richest
person.
