Thousands of University of Arizona Student Newspapers Disappear from Newsstands

By: Authorities say nearly 10,000 copies of the University of Arizona's student newspaper were taken from campus newsstands Thursday.

The UA Dean of Students Office says the Tucson school is treating the incident as theft and asked police to investigate.

The Arizona Daily Wildcat says the estimated value of the newspapers is $8,500.

It's unclear if taking of the papers is a criminal act because the papers are free.

A faculty adviser for the Wildcat says he discovered the newspapers missing after arriving on campus about 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

About 13,000 newspapers were delivered earlier that morning and all papers were taken from newsstands in main parts of campus.

The Wildcat reported Thursday afternoon that it received several tips claiming a fraternity was responsible.
