By: E&P Staff Harland Simon, Oak Brook, Ill., has been upgrading its press-control and Prima management systems at Lee Enterprises' Northwest Indiana Times, Munster, Quad City Times, Davenport, Iowa, and North County Times, Escondido, Calif. The first two sites were completed last month, and Escondido will be completed early next month.
The papers sought to future proof production-critical systems by moving away from the unsupported Windows 2000 platform. Besides replacing all computer hardware to improve performance and extend OEM warranties, the upgrade provided Harland Simon's latest touch-screen controls, which minimize keystrokes. Improved diagnostics and redesigned background communications increase speed and reliability of data exchange.
"The completed projects went ahead with no interruptions to production and ahead of schedule," Harland Simon Sales Manager Charlie Brackley said in a statement.
