By: NEW YORK-BASED Moody's Investors Service has assigned a Prime-1 short-term rating for commercial paper to the New York Times Co.
Moody's cited the company's strong local franchises, including the New York Times and Boston Globe, a consistent cash-flow performance under varying economic conditions, and moderate debt levels. The investment service said the rating also reflects the company's prospects for better medium-term operating results, due to productivity improvements and a generally favorable advertising environment in the major markets in which it owns properties.
