The New York Times Company said Thursday that its first-quarter revenue rose from a year ago, with an increase in advertising sales and the addition of digital subscribers, but quarterly profit declined because of spending on growth initiatives.
For the first three months of 2014, total revenue rose 2.6 percent year-over-year to about $390 million, and for the first time in several years, both print and digital advertising revenues increased.
