By: E&P Staff Times Community News, a division of the Los Angeles Times, has acquired La Canada Valley Sun and the Crescenta Valley Sun from Century Group newspapers.
The weekly La Canada Valley Sun is distributed to 10,000 homes and businesses in La Canada/Flintridge, Calif. The Crescenta Valley Sun has a Friday circulation of 15,000 serving La Crescenta, Montrose, and northern Glendale, Calif.
Will Fleet, who oversees three of the six Times Community News properties, will also head the Valley Sun newspapers.
Jerry Bean, president and owner of The Century Group, said in a statement, ?I agreed to sell these papers to The Times in part because of its reputation for producing quality newspapers. We wouldn't have sold to just anyone.?
Bean bought La Canada Valley Sun in 1989 from Joe DuPlain, who had published the newspaper for 40 years. The Crescenta Valley Sun was launched in 2002. The Century Group also publishes seven weekly newspapers.
