By: E&P Staff Times-Shamrock Alternative Newsweekly Group on Monday said it has picked Ruxton Media Group as its exclusive national advertising rep firm.
Ruxton Digital Media Network will be the non-exclusive representative for online advertising at the four Times-Shamrock alt-weeklies -- Baltimore City Paper; the Metro Times in Detroit; Orlando Weekly; and the San Antonio Current -- in addition to the recently acquired and merged Cleveland Scene.
"We are very excited that these papers have chosen to return to the
Ruxton group for their national advertising needs," Joe Larkin,
Ruxton's senior vice president of sales operations, said in a statement. "It's great to have (group Publisher) Don Farley and his team back again."
The Times-Shamrock papers first joined Ruxton in 1999, defecting from the Alternative Weekly Network, and later returning to it.
According to the joint announcement by Times-Shamrock and Ruxton, discussions began earlier this year when Ruxton parent Village Voice Media (VVM) was negotiating the sale of it Cleveland Scene.
"In our talks with Don, we both realized that there were great
advantages to both parties in resuming our relationship," Scott Tobias, president and COO for VVM, said.
"We have always had a good working relationship with Village Voice and
New Times and we felt that with our acquisitions in Cleveland, their
strong track record in national print sales and the tremendous progress
Ruxton has made in the digital sales arena, the time was right to
re-join them," Farley said in a statement.
With the addition of the Times-Shamrock papers, Ruxton said it now has a print presence in 50 American cities, including all of the top 20 U.S. markets.
Ruxton's total weekly print circulation now exceeds 3.6 million.
