By: E&P Staff Times-Shamrock Communications, publisher of The Citizens' Voice in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., announced Monday that it has bought the Hazelton (Pa.) Standard-Speaker.
Terms were not disclosed.
Citizens' Voice Publisher W. Scott Lynett, a fourth-generation owner of Times-Shamrock, will also become publisher of the 19,940-circulation Standard-Speaker effective May 1. The company noted that will be exactly seven years to the date the Lynette family-owned Times-Shamrock bought the Citizens' Voice.
With the acquisition, Times-Shamrock now owns two of the three daily papers in Luzerne County .
Lynett said all 120 Standard-Speaker employees will keep their jobs under the new ownership. Lynett also promoted John F. Patton, who had been the paper's controller, to general manager.
"The Standard-Speaker is a great growth opportunity in the heart of Northeastern Pennsylvania," Lynett said in a statement. "We hope to carry on the tradition of strong local journalism that the Walser family has supported for four generations."
