TIVO to Partner with 'Chicago Tribune,' Offer TV Critic's Picks

Posted
By: E&P Staff TIVO Inc. today announced it has partnered with the Chicago Tribune to deliver the recommendations of TV critic Maureen Ryan directly to the television sets of TIVO users, while TIVO automatically records the shows that are listed as "recommended" in the paper?s TV listings.

In addition, Ryan will also record a series of exclusive, recurring video commentaries that are exclusively available for download to TIVO users.

The agreement is "one of several new initiatives designed to explore new ways for the newspaper industry to adapt to the changing media landscape," a TIVO release states. As part of the agreement, TIVO will increase its advertising in the Tribune, both in the paper?s Sunday "The Guide" section, as well as its daily "Tempo" section. The ads are expected to highlight the new capabilities of TIVO?s digital recorders and include information about how to subscribe to receive the service.

Ryan is the author of the Tribune?s popular print and online television column, "The Watcher." She has been described by Variety magazine as one of the "favorite (or most feared)" critics of the television industry.
