TMS Expands Content Offering from Cars.com

By: E&P Staff Tribune Media Services (TMS) will offer newspapers and Web sites more automotive-related special-interest features and content Cars.com, the syndicate announced Monday.

TMS is also offering customized design services for newspaper auto section through its TMS Specialty Product's e-commerce content service, where publishers can preview and download material.

Cars.com is a division of Classified Ventures, which is jointly owned by TMS parent company Tribune Co., Belo Corp., Gannett Co. Inc., The McClatchy Co. and The Washington Post Co.

TMS said the newly expanded content offering are timed to coincide with what it expects will be an increase of car shoppers taking advantage of the so-called "Cash for Clunker" government rebates of $3,500 to $4,500 for old model cars that are traded in for greener vehicles.

Each week, TMS will deliver five to eight Cars.com stories on trends and reviews of new cars and trucks, as well as a series of special-interest features.

Those features include Ask.Cars.com, a Q & A column from Cars.com experts; MotherProof in which, Kristin Varela and a team of reviewers address the auto concerns of women and mothers; Kicking Tires, a look at auto industry trends and pop-culture tie-ins; and Pick-upTrucks.com.

In October, TMS will release a Cars.com 2010 auto preview package.

Customers will have the choice of receiving the content as a weekly package or working with TMS Specialty Products to design a weekly or daily auto page, according to the newspaper's specifications, TMS said.
