By: E&P Staff The Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle today appears on pink newsprint for the second year in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The almost 30 metric tons of AbitibiBowater colored newsprint from Canada costs 52% more than standard newsprint, according to Production Director Pat McCue.
Today's 72-page edition is larger than the weekday average and some Sunday editions, with special ads and news coverage related to breast cancer. Part of the revenue from the larger pink editions will go to the Augusta-based Lydia Project, which provides tote bags, prayer and other support to women with cancer around the world.
Sixty-two rolls of paper, in a slightly paler shade than last year, also were used to print the month's first edition of the Columbia-County News Times, North Augusta Today, The McDuffie Mirror and six other titles for which the Chronicle is responsible, according to a report late yesterday in the Chronicle's online edition.
