By: Joe Strupp Former Miami Herald Editor Tom Fiedler, who retired last year from the paper, will be a guest lecturer this spring at the Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard University, the center announced Monday.
Fiedler, who spent 35 years at the daily paper, will serve as the Visiting Murrow Lecturer of the Practice of Press and Politics and teach a course titled, ?Press, Politics and Public Policy.?
The Shorenstein Center also revealed its spring fellows for the first semester of 2008. They are:
? Elizabeth Becker, an author and journalist, who is the Edelman Family Fellow at the Shorenstein Center and will examine press coverage of economic issues.
? Richard Davis, a professor of political science at Brigham Young University and the author of books on media and politics. He will be researching and writing about the political blogosphere.
? Philip J. Hilts, an author and journalist, who will be the Goldsmith Fellow at the Shorenstein Center and write about press coverage of global health issues.
? J.H. Snider, a scholar who writes about new technology and is president of iSolon.org. He will examine the role of information policy in enhancing democracy.
"We are delighted to welcome this semester's fellows,? said Tom Patterson, acting director of the Shorenstein Center. ?They are an outstanding group, who hopefully will learn something from us, as we surely will learn from them. We are looking forward to a stimulating spring term."
